PROFILE OF MAC JACK

 

EARLY LIFE

A middle-aged man, born from a relatively poor family that came from the farms near Graaff-Reinet. He is the 7th child out of a total of 8 children.

The parents brought them up in a Christian environment, defined by, humbleness, humanity, love and care for each other and mankind.

His parents were relatively uneducated, but that did not stop them from sending their kids to school- because they believed that education is the key to success.

He started school at Ntsika Lower Primary school, and then went on to Thembalesizwe Higher Primary school. He was further enrolled at the Nqweba High school before moving to Thubalethu State High school, in Fort Beaufort, to do standard 9 and matric.

 

FAMILY LIFE

He is married with 9 children, whose ages range from 17-30 years. He is also the grandfather to 7 grandchildren.

 

POST MATRIC

He advanced his post-matric studies through Masibulele College of Education for a Teacher’s Diploma and Randse Afrikaanse Universiteit where he obtained a Further Diploma in Education Management.

He capacitated himself through Wits University where he obtained the following qualifications: CPMD-Finance Certificate, Housing Policy Development Program (HPDP), and Certificate in Governance and Leadership, including other short courses from different institutions.

In 2013, he obtained an honours degree in Public Administration from the University of Stellenbosch. He is further pursuing his studies through Wits University towards a Masters Degree. This he does because he believes that education and knowledge is the basis to serve the people better.

 

LIFE AS AN ACTIVIST

As an activist, Mr Jack served in different alliance structures and capacities of the Mass Democratic Movement - the African National Congress (ANC). He served in the ANC Pixley ka Seme Regional Executive Committee with distinction for more than 15 years. He served in different roles such as an Additional Member, Treasurer, Secretary and later, Chairperson of the Region, a position he held for more than 10 years.

He currently serves as both the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) and Provincial Working Committee (PWC) member, the positions he hold since 2008.

 

NO CAREER LIMITS

His work career includes, being a teacher at the Isibane Primary School, after which he joined Lillian Noveve Combined School in Victoria West, Northern Cape, as a Principal.

He also occupied the post of Assistant Chief Education Specialist at the Department of Education (Eastern Cape). In 1997 he moved back to the Northern Cape Provincial Administration, where he became Deputy-Director at the Department of Housing and Local Government in De Aar. Furthermore, he became the Local Economic Development Manager and later the Municipal Manager at Pixley ka Seme District Municipality.

 

MEMBER OF THE PROVINCIAL LEGISLATURE

In 2013, Mr Mac Jack was sworn in as a new member of the Provincial Legislature, deployed by the ANC. He was elected Member of the Executive Council (MEC) responsible for the following portfolios: Transport, Safety and Liaison (2013), Health (2014) and Finance, Economic Development and Tourism (2016) and is currently serving as the MEC for Education in the Northern Cape (2019).
