The MEC for Education, Ms Martha Bartlett officiated the sod turning of the Karos Primary School that will be build at an estimated costs of R39million. The expected completion date is at the end of 2017. The construction of this school will definitely contribute towards the quality of public education in Karos as well as the surrounding communities.

In her address the MEC indicated:

"Education will remain high on the agenda of our Government as we continue to improve the lives of all our people through education. We will continue to invest in the future of our youth through initiatives such as these to address poverty, inequality and unemployment in all our communities.

Education is the cornerstone for economic development in our beautiful country. Most learners in our Province have access to basic education as we continue to address injustices of the past systematically. All our schools have access to basic services, water and sanitation to ensure a conducive environment for quality public education for all learners.

Through the construction of this school we honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela who believed that education is the most powerful weapon one can use to change the world. This school will be fully fitted with 1x Admin block ,14 xClassrooms,2x Ablutions,1 x Media Centre,1x Science Lab,1x Computer,Double ECD classroom,Nutrition Centre, 1x School Hall and a Sports-field. This school will accommodate 284 learners and 10 teachers. We are ensuring that the doors of learning are open and access to quality public education.

Our communities, teachers and parents should take good care of our children, especially during the school holidays. Drug and substance abuse in our communities remains a challenge as it directly affects the future of our children. We have no place in our society for drug dealers who ruin the lives of our children. It is our collective responsibility to ensure a drug free community and be role models for our children towards the realisation of their dreams. It starts here, at the Karos Primary School."

End.
