Operation Phakisa a reality

Upington - Deputy Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning,   Monitoring and Evaluation Buti Manamela and Deputy Minister for Basic Education Enver Surty recently visited the Northern Cape Province in the Upington area to monitor the implementation of ICT in Education.

The Deputy Ministers were hosted by the MEC for Education in the Province, Martha Bartlett.

The visit took place under the banner of ‘Operation Phakisa’, a big fast results programme launched by President Jacob Zuma aimed to accelerate delivery of ICT in teaching and learning.

Carlton van Heerden Secondary School and Rosendal Intermediate School were the two schools that were monitored. MEC Bartlett pledged a donation of R150 000 to each school for the upgrade of their entire ICT infrastructure with the latest technology available.

Additionally the department of Education has a teacher resource centre located at the district office which provides training and internet access for learners and the surrounding community members at large.

This is the third monitoring visits conducted jointly by Deputy Ministers Manamela and Surty throughout our country.

The Executive Mayors, Speakers and Councillors of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality and Dawid Kruiper Local municipality were part of the delegation for monitoring visits to these ICT centres.

The Deputy Ministers pledged their continued support to the Northern Cape Provincial Government for the expansion of the ICT rollout to all schools.

More than 50% of all schools in the Northern Cape are equipped with these ICT centers which provide learners and teachers a valuable learning experience. This is what our learners need now and for future towards a better and more prosperous future.
