ZF Mgcawu District scoops 3 Awards

 

The Minister of Basic Education Mrs Angie Motshekga acknowledged and recognised the contribution of education districts at the 2018 National Education Excellence Awards which was held on Friday, 6 April in Menlyn, Pretoria.  

 

The District Awards are aimed at complementing the National Teaching Awards and National School Nutrition Programme Awards and to celebrate district excellence in areas focused on improving the quality of learning outcomes. The 2018 Education Excellence Awards brings together different awards in the system. The consolidation of the awards has seen an introduction of new categories of recognition.

 

The department has been recognising and celebrating districts that have shown consistent improvement or maintained excellent performance across all levels of the system since the first awards ceremony were held in April 2014.

 

District Excellence Awards categories are:

• Overall Top performing district

• Top performing district in NSC Examination

• Most improved district

• Top Performing Ordinary Public School (Quintile 1 – 5)  

• Top Performing LSEN (Learners with Special Educational Needs) School

 

The ZF Mgcawu District office scooped three(3) awards during this years National Awards. They received the Awards for the Best Performing District in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, obtained the third position for the implementation of the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) and Soverby Primary School was awarded for the second best school for its outstanding implementation of the NSNP. 

 

It is evident that our programmes are yielding positive results in our schools and at our District offices. We will continue to pursue excellence in Education to further improve the quality of education in all our schools across the Province. We congratulate the ZF Mgcawu District office under the leadership of Mr Gordon March, the dedicated staff and all schools for their commitment towards the future of many learners. We are confident that other Districts will follow suit and translate into an overall improvement in the academic performance across all grades.
