Food handlers’ graduation and kitchen handover

The Tiger Brands Foundation in Partnership with Solar Sishen Facility and the Northern Cape Department of Education espouse the positive effects of private-public partnerships in South African schools

The Tiger Brands Foundation, in partnership with Solar Sishen Facility and the Northern Cape Department of Education handed over “state-of-the-art” kitchen facilities to Noord-Kaap and Deben Primary Schools in Northern Cape.

Both schools are amongst 5 beneficiaries of the Tiger Brands Foundation’s in-school breakfast programme. While the NSNP provides lunch to learners, the Foundation, in partnership with Solar Sishen Facility,  offers a healthy, nutritious breakfast every school day to   learners at disadvantaged schools in Northern Cape.

On this day we also celebrated the success of 38 candidates who completed the Food Handler Skills training. The participants were from Deben Primary School, Gamagara High School , Maikaelelo Combined School, Noord-Kaap Primary School , Sishen Intermediate School  and Sishen Priemer.

The training is CATHSSETA accredited and provides learners with 8 Units Standards and 15 credits towards a professional qualification. The skills training also aims to capacitate food handlers with the skills to carry out their immediate responsibilities of ensuring that the learners are fed nutritious meals that have been prepared according to prescribed safety and hygiene standards, as well as ensuring that they are assisted with skills that will create opportunities for them to continue earning an income even after their contracts with the schools have expired. To-date, The Tiger Brands Foundation hast rolled the training to 490 candidates across all provinces.
