9th SGB Elections Virtual Launch

PREMIER, DR ZAMANI SAUL, TO LAUNCH PROVINCIAL SCHOOL GOVERNING BODY ELECTIONS

It is an uncontested fact that School Governing Bodies (SGBs) play a crucial role in the success of schools. Schools with effective and efficient SGB members are most likely to secure greater success than those with limited parental and community involvement.

Creative and resourceful SGBs play a fundamental role in mobilising scarce resources for education. They are very instrumental in the fight against racism, sexism, xenophobia and all other forms of discrimination and intolerance.

The Department of Education needs School Governing Bodies that will support curriculum delivery and strengthen school governance. Added to this, the Department needs to focus on the improvement of learner achievement by supporting schools in developing strategies for improving teaching and learning. An appeal is therefore made to all members of society to avail themselves for nomination, attending of meetings and participation in the 2021 SGB Elections. This is an opportunity for parents and members of the community to make a difference in their schools.

It is against this background that the Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul, accompanied by the MEC for Education, Mr Zolile Monakali, will launch the 2021 School Governing Body elections. The elections will be  held from 1 March- 30 April 2021. The Provincial Launch of the ninth SGB Elections will take place virtually and is scheduled as follows:

Date: Wednesday, 17 February 2021
