Sector partners give education lekgotla thumps up

Kimberley- All stakeholders in the education sector have given thumps up to the provincial education lekgotla that is currently underway at Horse shoe motel here in Kimberley.

More than 300 delegates are attending this 3 day education lekgotla which is ending tomorrow.

Cosas provincial secretary, Thato Gaosekwe, also weighed in behind the education lekgotla.

"Our position is that school libraries should be revived so that it can assist learners who wants to remain behind after school. Most libraries in schools are not in good state and there is a shortage of books," said Gaosekwe.

Following his recent school visit in Manyeding village outside Kuruman, department' Superintendent General, Tshepo Pharasi challenged all delegates to remain committed to the improvement of learner attainment and better education system.

"LTSM provision is one of the basic functions of the provincial department. It was our model that was taken to nation as a model to be rolled out nationwide.

School management, time on task and low literacy levels remain a challenge in many schools and it needs to be resolved. Retrieval management of textbooks is worrying," said Pharasi.

The provincial education lekgotla is an inter-departmental session where challenges facing the department's performance in NSC results.

The outcomes of this three-day education lekgotla will form the basis of the Education summit that will be held sometime this year.
