NCDOE celebrates Nelson Mandela Day
The Northern Cape Department of Education heeded the clarion call of taking action and inspiring change in our communities through humanitarian action and goodwill onto others in celebrating the life of the father of our nation, Tata Nelson Mandela. Through his life and sacrifices he brought change in the life of many South Africans and all over the world.
International Nelson Mandela Day should serve as inspiration to all of us to continue doing good onto others. No matter how small or insignificant it maybe, it will make the world a better place.
The Northern Cape Department of Education celebrated International Nelson Mandela Day in Bathlaros, John Toalo Gaetsewe District. We have brought change to Monare family, donated groceries, toiletries as well as created employment for their daughter, Mapaseka Sekukunene, which will serve as the change agent for the family.
We have also identified the Omogolo Women In Action Soup Kitchen, a community based, which provides a decent meal to more than 100 elderly in the community. Currently they are battling financially and experienced challenges with the continously supply of water. The Department provided groceries to the value of R5000, established a food garden which will benefit the whole community and engaged Sedibeng Water through the Gasegonyane Municipality to erect a water tap on the premises. These initiatives have changed the lives of the broader Bathlaros community for a better future.
The programmes of the Department of Education stretches far beyond International Nelson Mandela Day, with the objectives to improve the lives of all our people, especially our learners. We will distribute 3000 pairs of school shoes in August to deserving learners across the Province. Through our actions and programmes we will continue to give effect to the legacy of Nelson Mandela in our daily lives by serving our people to the best of our ability. This is our commitment to the Northern Cape and all its people.
