NCDoE Mandela Day: Handing over of schools shoes

The Northern Cape Department of Education, in honouring the legacy of Nelson Mandela, handed over 91 school shoes to deserving learners of Pescodia Primary Schools in Roodepan.

Nelson Mandela said:“We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hand s to make a difference”.Celebrating this day is an opportunity to give to those who do not have through charitable organisations and raise funds to support their continuing work of ensuring change.

The 2017 Nelson Mandela Day is therefore a call to action for the nation at work, together working for the continuous development of humanity in line with this year’s message - “Take Action - Inspire Change - Make Every Day a Mandela Day”.

The message encourages everyone to be active citizens and agents of what they want to see. As a champion of change, Mandela was instrumental in reconciliation and ensuring that Africans come together to defeat all challenges - like apartheid, poverty and to build and alternative world, based on peace, love and humanity.

All South Africans have a responsibility to promote freedom and defend our democracy in honour of Madiba’s life-long commitment to these ideals. His legacy lives on in our commitment to ensure a just and fair society for all, including the rights to dignity and freedom of expression.

Concerted efforts should be made, so that we move away from only doing good deeds unto others beyond Nelson Mandela Month, so that it become a part of our daily lives. The Northern Cape Department of Education, in partnership the CEF Group, an energy utility entity, will handover 2500 school shoes to deserving learners across the Province from 14-18 August. Education is a societal matter, which requires our collective involvement to ensure that we keep the dreams of all our learners alive.

Let us make the difference!
