Read to Lead Campaign Ambassador Programme

The Department of Basic Education is currently busy co-ordinating a reading and library services campaign called the Read to Lead Campaign. The Campaign will amongst others consist of the collection of books, opening and building of libraries, Spelling Bee Competitions and Reading Clubs programmes in schools and in the community.

Research indicates that reading aloud with children is the single most important activity for building the knowledge and skills they will eventually need for learning to read. This will inevitably lead to improved academic performance in schools.

The Read to Lead Campaign is four year (2015-2019) long national celebration of reading, aiming to inspire and build national interest amongst learners, parents, teachers and business communities to assist to improve learners competence in the critical area of literacy. In support of this Campaign, we have identified Reading Ambassadors that will support the Campaign in different ways, depending on their area of interest, skills and preference.

The Department of Education in the Northern Cape has scheduled the launch of its Reading Ambassadors for the Read to Lead Campaign as follow:

Venue: Mayibuye Centre (Hall)

Time: 11:00

Date: Wednesday (Today) 25 April 2018.
