MEC Donates laptop to Inmate
Northern Cape Department of Education MEC Martha Bartlett recently handed over a laptop to Mncedisi Ncekana who is an inmate at the Tswelopele Correctional Services outside Kimberley.
Ncekana who is furthering his studies with Intec College couldn’t hide his excitement when the MEC officially handed over the laptop. The soft spoken Ncekana commended the MEC for donating the laptop to him. “Words can’t really explain how I feel today, the laptop comes at the right time, it will assist me to do my school work and also assist my fellow classmates, I would like to thank the MEC who took her time from her busy schedule to come and be with us to handover the laptop”, said Ncekana who is currently studying towards Business Management qualification.
During the handover ceremony, MEC Bartlett also took the chance to encourage other learners who are currently busy with their final exams to work very hard.
“We are here today to handover this token of appreciation to Ncekana who have been outstanding with his studies, although it might not be something very big this will also encourage other learners to work even harder. We are now living in the world that relies on technology, so we need to move with time, hence we decided to handover the laptop”.
MEC further indicated that she will attend the annual matric awards in 2019 at the Centre and she expect all the learners to have passed their exams. “Despite not achieving our 100% pass target in this Centre last year, next year I remain optimistic that we are going to reach our target”, she added.
Area Commissioner Joe Joseph said they appreciate all the efforts shown by the MEC who has been striving to improve the level of education within the Centre. “We have seen MEC’s commitment here in Tswelopele and we are very much thankful that the level of education in the Centre has tremendously improved”, Joseph concluded.
