Department satisfied with schools’ readiness
The Northern Cape Department of Education is satisfied with the state of readiness of all schools for the 2019 school academic year. We deployed officials to all schools to monitor whether schools are equipped with adequate resources.
As a Department we are finalising the outstanding learner placements and secure the placement for 323 learners for both Grade 1 and 8. We must indicate that since the schools reopened, we have received more than 100 new late applications, which is a clear indication that parents are not fulfilling their primary responsibility.
The Frances Baard District office has the highest enrollment of learners and therefore we have prioritised the admissions. We have indicated from the onset that we won't be able to guarantee parents a school of preference. Our District offices has already started to contact parents to provide alternative placement to learners. We further encourage parents to work with us to speedily resolve the placement of learners. We cannot turn a blind eye to these applicants, as education is a constitutional right.
We are busy conducting an in-depth analysis on the outcome of the NSC Examination results to develop an improvement plan for our 32 underperforming schools in the Province. The improvement plan will be school specific as there is no one size fits all approach to address underperforming.
We call on all schooling communities and the broader society to work with us to ensure quality education in all our schools. We must recommit ourselves to the strenuous task ahead of us in the 2019 school academic year.
