19 Schools in Pixley Ka Seme District
Reopening of 19 schools in the Pixley Ka Seme District
The nineteen (19) Pixley ka Seme district schools which could not reopen last week due to the rapid COVID-19 increase in the Umsobomvu and Renosterberg Municipalities will reopen on Wednesday, 17 June 2020.
Our decision to reopen these schools, follows a joint meeting between the MEC's of Education and Health in the province, which concluded that these schools should open. We have processed the decontamination and deep cleaning of these schools, as well as the provision of psycho-social support to the School Management Teams, Educators and non-teaching staff.
In total, more than 1 200 learners and 282 educators were affected by the closure of these 19 schools. Together with the Department of Health, on a constant basis, we will closely monitor these schools to secure an adequate and safe learning and teaching environment.
Meanwhile, the Department is currently mapping out the phasing in of other grades by 6 July 2020.
Further communication in this regard will be shared with the public in due course.
End.
