3 NORTHERN CAPE SCHOOLS CLOSED DUE TO SUSPECTED COVID-19 CASES
The Northern Cape Department of Education can confirm that 3 schools in the Province have been closed with immediate effect due to suspected Covid-19 cases. We will await the announcement by the Department of Health to confirm these cases.
Zingisani Primary School and Carnavon Primary School in the Pixley Ka Seme District as well as Beacon Primary School in the Frances Baard District are the only schools thus far to be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. We will only consider to reopen these schools once we have satisfied ourselves with the results of the contact traces. The Department of Health will guide us in this regards, whilst these schools are disinfected.
We commend the swift action by the Department of Health in the early detection of COVID-19 cases in schools and we will continue to strengthen our collaborative efforts against this invisible enemy. It is clear that the systems and measures we have in place, acts as an early alert system to curb the spread of the Coronavirus. Our primary preventative measures in place at all school are on par as we confront this global pandemic.
For now, we want to encourage the educators, parents and learners of the affected schools to stay calm and continue to practice good hygiene, as we attend to the suspected cases. It is further responsibility of the above-mentioned stakeholders to ensure that they continue to do their schoolwork from home.
End.
