COVID-19 Alert Level 1

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Wednesday 16 September 2020 that the country will move to lockdown Alert Level 1 from midnight on Sunday, 20 September 2020, and that amongst others, all areas of government will as a result return to full operation safely and without undue delay.

The Northern Cape Department of Education granted concessions to educators and PSA employees to work from home in terms of ELRC Collective Agreement 1 of 2020 and the department’s circulars in this regard. The concessions that were granted to work from home, will cease on Friday 18 September 2020.

Therefore all educators and PSA employees, except for those on approved leave (e.g. Temporary Incapacity Leave, Maternity leave, etc) must report for duty with effect from 21 September 2020.

All our offices (District and Provincial Offices) will operate on normal business hours of 7h30 - 16h00. The COVID-19 protocols relating to screening, sanitization, social distancing and wearing of masks will remain in force in all Offices and Schools.

The Department further reminds all educators, staff and learners that it remains the responsibility of all of us to take precautions to curb the spread of the coronavirus and continue to work together to fight this pandemic.
