Update- 2021 learner admissions

The Northern Cape Department of Education is working around the clock to finalise the learner admissions for the 2021 school academic year. Our District offices have made good progress to issue parents with an offer for placement, based on their admission application. We can now report that more than 90% of parents received an offer for placement.

It has also come to our attention that a significant number of parents applied for school space (next grade), specifically in middle grades, at the same school the child is currently attending. This admission application was NOT necessary, as the child would be automatically progressed to the next grade without any application. Therefore these parents will receive an unsuccessful sms from the Department, indicating that his/her application is unsuccessful. Parents who have unfortunately applied at the same school for the next Grade, can ignore the unsuccessful sms. Therefore, there will also be no need to submit an Appeal.

The Department already indicated that school hopping would NOT be allowed, unless a child comes from another Province or parents relocated from one area to another for job opportunities. We have also indicated that we have a limited number of available spaces for Grade R, and therefore a number of parents will have to make use of ECD Community Based Centres for the 2021 school academic.

We kindly request parents to assist the Department to either accept or decline the offers for placement within the 7 day window period. Failure to do so, will result in the Department placing your child. Parents who have not yet received a placement offer, must remain patient, as you will receive sms soon. Our walk-in centres in all Districts will assist parents to finalise your admission application. Please remember to wear your mask, sanitize your hands and maintain social distancing, when visiting our walk-in centres.

End.
