VACCINATION OF EDUCATORS AND SUPPORT STAFF
4 July 2021
The Northern Cape Department of Education wishes to report steady progress on the campaign to vaccinate educators and support staff in the Province. At the 2nd of July, we recorded a total of 7688 vaccinations done across all our sites in the Province.
The number of educators and support staff are increasing at all sites, but we have achieved only about 50% of the target population. Many more educators need to present themselves as soon as possible, as we approach the deadline of 8 July 2021. To those who have not yet chosen the route of vaccination, we encourage them to urgently do so, as more evidence is emerging that those who are vaccinated are significantly protected from being fatally affected by COVID-19.
We believe that during the school recess more teachers will find their way to the vaccination sites and arm themselves better against COVID-19 before schools re-open. We request staff in the Education sector therefore to embrace the opportunity as they are being acknowledged as key frontline staff who render a critical service to our communities, but also play a critical role in securing the future of our children.
We would also like to thank all the healthcare workers for their commitment and dedication to ensure that the vaccination sites are fully operational and who stand ready to assist our educators and support staff.
