2021 Provincial Teaching Awards
The Northern Cape Department of Education hosted the 2021 Provincial Teaching Awards on the 7th of September 2021 in Kimberley, which was conceptualized and launched in 2000 and in 2021 it entered its 21st year of implementation. Through extensive consultation, the Awards has been refined, sharpened, as well as broadened in terms of its frame and categories.
MEC Zolile Monakali during his opening remarks indicated, "Action Plan 2019: Towards the Realisation of Schooling 2030 envisages the continuous improvement of teachers and their capabilities and who are confident in their profession. It also aims at attracting a new group of young, motivated and appropriately trained teachers to the teaching profession. In one way or the other, the school system has been expected to adjust to the current conditions of adjusting teaching methods, and excelling in doing work through these difficult conditions. Educators present here today have mastered such art.
Your achievement shows that despite the “times of challenges and controversy” we face in our education system; our schools continue to have a cadre of torch-bearers, tirelessly working hard to deliver quality teaching. Better education is sorely needed by the young and this beautiful country of ours that is in dire need of development".
The Keynote Address was done by Premier Dr. Zamani Saul who emphasized, "Education contributes to the well-being of each citizen and the overall development of the country. It is not only a medium to improve productivity and growth of the economy but is also an effective tool to enlarge and raise participation in democracy and the transformation of society. Thus, the role of education is very important in every Nation and teachers take a leading role to nurse the process of cognitive human growth and development through quality teaching from a very fundamental, up to an advanced stage.
Good teachers not only bring out the best in their learners, but they also inculcate and develop a love for life-long learning. When I visit schools, I see this in the daily activities of the teachers, and most of you even go beyond the activities of the school and this is merit worthy. We all know what a difference this can make to the learners’ lives. Your care and concern is the beacon of hope for many of our learners when they are faced with challenges, whether in their school exams, difficulty coping with grades, different aspects of school life or the difficulties of teenage life. In most instances our teachers make a positive difference with a listening ear and a caring heart".

MEC Special Award - Mr James Mapanka received this Award in recognition for his dedication and commitment in preserving our rich heritage and culture in the Province. Through his service to the Department, the introduction of the Nama language was realized in two Northern Cape Schools in 2018.
All Provincial Winners received a honorary blazer, trophies, laptop, data projector, printer and voucher.
