UPDATE ON THE PLACEMENT OF LEARNERS
The Northern Cape Department of Education can confirm that all Grade R (9 421 learners), Grade 1 (3 925) & Grade 8 (11 203) learners who applied on the Online Admission System has been placed.
971 Grade 7 learners who did not apply for Grade 8 on the Online Admission System has been placed manually by District Offices to ensure at least all Grade 7 learners in the system (on the SASAMS database) are placed.
All the other learners in the middle grades, which were not managed on the Online Admission System has been placed by the schools, after the progressions in December 2021.All learners in the system based on the 2021 SASAMS data has therefore been placed.
In the Frances Baard District, specifically Kimberley, the town schools remain the biggest flashpoint due to the high demand for ex-model C schools and specifically English medium schools. Despite all learners who applied being placed, some parents are still not satisfied with the schools which they were placed in. The result is that these parents are flocking to their schools of choice to plead for space.
To accommodate any other parent who has still not registered, the Northern Cape Department of Education has allowed schools to manage the walk-in applications themselves in January based on their available capacities to prevent parents/groups going to District or the Provincial offices. To date 904 walk - in applications has been processed by schools.
End.
