SMOOTH START TO THE 2022 NATIONAL SENIOR CERTIFICATE (NSC) EXAMINATIONS

The MEC for Education in the Northern Cape, Mr Zolile Monakali, accompanied by the Head of Department, Ms Moira Marais, Members of the Executive Council in the Northern Cape, as well as Senior managers throughout the Northern Cape Province, today visited examination centres in the Province to monitor the start of the first day of the NSC examination.

A monitoring instrument or checklist was provided to all monitors to use to verify adherence to the exam norms and standards to be applied for the NSC, eg. proper seating of all learners, no unauthorized gadgets or material allowed, as well as strict adherence to all time requirements.

All of the 145 National Senior Certificate Examination centres have been audited by provincial and district officials, based on a national instrument.

We are quite satisfied that our 1st day went well across the Province despite minor incidents (not irregularities).

We are also pleased that due to effective, efficient and timeous intervention by District officials and the affected School, that a taxi blockade that took place in Pampierstad, Frances Baard District did not negatively impact on the examination centre concerned. No extra time or special measures were required.

The MEC, together with the Premier and Members of the Executive Council further wish the Class of 2022 well and encourage them to be vigilant and prepare themselves well everyday until the last day of the examination.

The Department is cognisant that the NSC Examination is regarded as an annual event of major public significance which put added stress on NSC candidates. We therefore call on parents, family, friends, educators, officials and the community at large to help create conducive environments for these candidates to study. In addition, the mentioned stakeholders should prioritise candidates’ emotional and mental well-being during this strenuous period. Education remains a societal issue and as such communities should rally behind NSC candidates to enable them to achieve excellent results to enhance their employability and/or access to further studies.

End.
