MOOT COURT COMPETITION IN THE PIXLEY KA SEME DISTRICT

Learners from 8 schools in the Pixley Ka Seme District participated in the Moot Court Competition.

The Schools Moot Court Competition is a collaboration between the Department of Basic Education, The Department of Justice & Constitutional Development, South African Human Rights Commission, Legal Aid South Africa, NGO’s, NPO’s, advocates and lawyers through the Black Lawyers Association (BLA) dealing with human rights and social cohesion related activities.

The National Schools Moot Court Competition (NSMCC) is a simulated Constitutional Court hearing for high school learners. The participants are given a fictitious set of facts and have to argue for both (applicant & respondent) parties. It further requires the participants to submit written arguments as well as make oral submissions in a real Court.

This programme served as a build-up programme for the National Human Rights Celebration which is scheduled to take place in De Aar on Tuesday, 21 March 2023.
