NORTHERN CAPE G20 PROVINCIAL EDUCATION INDABA

Northern Cape hosted today the last day of the G20 Indaba on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).

The Northern Cape Department of Education successfully hosted a two-day G20 Provincial Indaba on ECCE at the Sol Plaatjie University, convening stakeholders from government, civil society, and the private sector to advance foundational learning.

Delivering the closing address, MEC for Education, Mr Abraham Vosloo, reaffirmed the province’s commitment to strengthening ECCE over the next three to four years. Key priorities include:

• Formalising and supporting ECCE centres.

• Expanding access to quality learning and teaching resources.

• Integrating technology into early learning environments.

The MEC emphasised the importance of the strategic partnerships with the mining and renewable energy sectors, municipalities, and civil society to mobilise resources and ensure sustainable support. He acknowledged recent private sector investments in modern ECCE centres that will benefit communities for years to come.

Commission sessions produced key recommendations:

Commission 1: Curriculum innovation, teacher development, and integration of 21st-century skills to improve learner engagement.

Commission 2: Workforce development, enhanced mentorship, and the establishment of provincial training hubs for ECCE practitioners.

Commission 3: Strengthening stakeholder collaboration through interdepartmental forums and municipal integration of ECCE priorities.

These outcomes will support the creation of inclusive, high-quality early learning environments across the province. ECCE remains a provincial priority, forming the foundation for lifelong learning and contributing to the broader vision of quality education for all.
