AUGRABIES INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL GUTTED IN FLAMES
The Northern Cape Department of Education can confirm that the Augrabies Intermediate School was gutted in flames this afternoon, which caused massive damage to the school infrastructure. Our preliminary assessment indicates that 9 classrooms and the Administration Block was totally destroyed in the fire with office equipment as well as the files of the school.
At this stage it is not clear what triggered the fire. The Principal has opened a case of arson at the SAPS. We further appeal to the general public or any individual with information to come forward and report it to the SAPS.
The Department will be assisting the school with immediate effect to normalise and stabilise the situation. We will dispatch our Infrastructure Unit to the school for a formal assessment.
