State of Readiness for the 2026 National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examinations

The Northern Cape Department of Education is fully prepared to administer the 2026 National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examinations. We are pleased to confirm that all systems are in place to ensure the successful and credible delivery of this year’s examinations.

Performance Overview

In 2025, the Northern Cape achieved a pass rate of 87,79%, representing a significant improvement of 21,79% over the past six years, up from 66% in 2020. The Class of 2026 now carries the responsibility of building on this achievement, with the aim of not only improving on last year’s performance, but surpassing the 90% pass rate.

Support Provided to the Class of 2026

The Department has implemented a range of targeted interventions to support all learners, with particular focus on progressed and borderline candidates to maximise their potential. These interventions include:

• Curriculum Roadshows and Subject Clinics

• Broadcasted Lessons and Digital Content (both online and offline)

• Saturday Classes, Weekend Lock-In Sessions, and Psycho-Social Support

• Differentiated Subject Support for high-enrolment and problematic subjects, led by Subject Advisors

• Provision of Additional Learning Support Materials

• Holiday School Camps

These initiatives are designed to provide holistic academic and emotional support to learners throughout their examination preparation.

It is important to recognise that the matric examination is not only significant for learners, but represents a 12-year partnership between Government, parents, educators, families and communities. As learners now face this final chapter of their school career, they do so, supported by the collective investment of all stakeholders. We call on parents and family members to provide continued guidance, encouragement and emotional support during this crucial period.

We also urge the Class of 2026 to approach their examinations with honesty, discipline and integrity, in line with the oath they have taken. With confidence, we believe that the Class of 2026 will rise to the occasion and make the Northern Cape proud.

End.
