HEDCOM WORKSHOP AND MEETING 2024

 

The Director-General for Basic Education, Mr Matanzima Mweli chaired the annual  two day Heads of Education Department Committee (HEDCOM) Workshop, which convened in the Northern Cape  at Boointjieskraal Farm on the 12-13 August 2024, under the theme:” Building a solid foundation for a quality and efficient basic education system.”

 

The event was attended by all Heads  of  Departments and officials from the nine Provincial Departments. The main purpose of the HEDCOM symposium is to communicate the priorities of the 7th administration from national government to basic education. 

 

In terms of the National government there are three (3) identified priorities which are:

•Inclusive economic growth and job creation 

•Maintaining and increase social wage

•Capable, ethical and developmental state.

 

Whilst basic education review, accelerate  and continue to prioritize education , by identifying five (5) key areas which are:

•Early Childhood Development 

•Literacy/languages 

•Inclusive education 

•Infrastructure, school safety and social cohesion

•Skills and competency for the changing world

 

Following this meeting provinces are expected to acclimatise with the national priorities and put then into action.
