DEPARTMENT SHOCKED BY THE ARREST OF AN EDUCATOR

The Northern Cape Department of Education is shocked by the arrest of an educator at a Primary School in Kimberley. It is alleged that the educator raped a 13 year old learner at the school. We welcome the arrest by the SAPS and the Department has placed the educator on preliminary precautionary suspension.

The Department will initiate its own investigation into the allegations and follow all due disciplinary processes in this regard. Every child is a national asset and we should protect their well-being at all times. We view this case in a very serious light and therefore it will receive our urgent attention.

The Department appeals to parents and all school communities to guard and protect our learners, and to always know the whereabouts of your child, especially as we approach the festive season. A team from our Learner Support Services will visit the family to provide counseling and psycho-social support to the family.

End.
