Department appoints 305 additional Educators in NC schools

The Northern Cape Department of Education allocated each school an amount of educators according to the Post Provisioning Norms that governs the national distribution of Posts. Post provisioning is regulated in terms of the Employment of Educators Act, 76 of 1998. (Government Gazette 39684, 12 February 2016 as amended by Government Gazette 24077 dated 15 November 2002). Regulations made in terms of this Act determines that the Member of the Executive Council must create a pool of posts in accordance with funds available for this purpose.

This is done by considering the number of learners per grade, per subject, per disability, medium of instruction and per quintile (poverty ranking) of the school.
The above-mentioned information is obtained from the statistics of the current year, in order to determine the Educator Staff Establishments for the following year.

Due to various factors at play, it is often necessary to supplement the original amount allocated, via the provision of an additional number of posts. An initial batch (as done in the previous year) of Additional Educators, (113) were allocated according the Post Provisioning Model, which was done in consideration of the following Provincial Imperatives:

-Small High and Primary Schools
-General Administration and Support
-Multi-Grade and Multi-Phase Teaching
-Agricultural schools

The second batch of Additional 192 Posts were allocated primarily due to, but not limited to the following factors:
-Learner growth
-Curriculum expansion
-Medium Instruction
·Newly identified Multi-grade and multi-phase schools
-Overcrowded Classrooms
-Educator workload

Therefore, the total amount of Additional Educators allocated for the 2019 school academic year amounts to 305 Additional Posts (113 + 192), in which approval was granted to include an additional 55 posts, which was approved last week.

All additional posts expire at the end of the 2019 academic year and schools will have to re-apply for the 2020 school year.

End.
