FOLLOW UP VISITS TO HANTAM HIGH SCHOOL AND NICO BEKKER INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

The MEC for Education, Mr Zolile Monakali will visit Hantam High School in Calvinia, following the closure of the school due to infrastructure related challenges, where a certain section of the school was declared unsafe. This section of the school building is currently not in use and cordoned off.

The Department committed to procure 14 mobile classrooms to accommodate all learners, which will be delivered before the end of August 2022. MEC Zolile Monakali will hand over the 14 mobile classrooms on Tuesday, 30 August 2022 at the Hantam High School at 10h00.

Following this programme, the MEC has also scheduled a visit to the Nico Bekker Intermediate School in Williston. This school has been without electricity supply for the past 5 months, due to cable theft at the school. The Department has since appointed a contractor to restore the electricity supply to the school, in order for normal learning and teaching to continue in a conducive environment.

The school community closed the school earlier this month and has requested the MEC to intervene and resolve the challenges they are confronted with. The Department has also settled their arrear account with ESKOM amounting to R73000. The MEC will engage with the SGB and SMT of Nico Bekker Intermediate School on the progress made to date.

All members of the media are invited to the above-mentioned programmes and be informed on the latest developments thereof.
