Trafficking in Persons (Tip) remains a major concern.

Trafficking in Persons (TIP) commonly known as the human trafficking  remains a major concern in various societies nation wide.

In  the bid to raise awareness against the TIP, the Northern Cape Department of Education joined forces with other provincial departments to embark on the awareness to fight against this acts within the various communities in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.

This  integrated  initiative by different government departments and stakeholders fighting on trafficking in persons is also aimed on addressing issues such as Gender Based Violence (GBV), challenges faced by Lesbians, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex.

In this information sharing drive,  8 schools were targeted for the advocacy, door to door campaigns, road blocks and community dialogues.

When addressing the learners at Kudumang  Primary School Department of Social Development, Manager for Victim Empowerment Program Ms Portia Qondani said: "Females especially young girls remain the most vulnerable to  human trafficking. Young girls are trafficked and turned into sex workers by their traffickers. Young men and boys are trafficked for hard labour and other forms of exploitation".

In addition Ms Qondani  emphasised that taking this awareness to  the level of schools will leave a huge difference as most victims are based there.

The most recent notable kidnapping incident involved the  Nkangala District municipal manager Margaret Skosana and her driver, Gugu Mtsweni, who were both later found unharmed.
