Teacher Development
As a teacher, you are expected to:
· acknowledge the noble calling of your profession to educate and train the learners of our country;
· acknowledge that the attitude, dedication, self-discipline, ideas, training and conduct of the teaching profession determine the quality of education in this country;
· acknowledge, uphold and promote basic human rights, embodies in the Constitution of South Africa;
· commit yourself therefore to do all within your power, in the exercising of your professional duties, to act in accordance with the ideals of your profession, as expressed in the SACE Code of Professional Ethics; and
· act in a proper and becoming way such that your behaviour does not bring the teaching profession into disrepute.
A holistic teacher development programme is being rollout by the Northern Cape Department of Education. One area that has been neglected over a long period is the capacity building and consolidation of newly qualifies teachers entering the system. The Novice Teacher Induction ensure on Programme (NTIP) will be ramp up to rollout a more comprehensive capacity building of the novice teachers. The NTIP will see that all newly qualified teachers are henceforth assisted annually to complete the one year Induction Programme. This initiative is aimed at helping new teachers to adapt to the schooling environment successfully, help build capacity and resilience so that they remain in the system till the normal retirement age. The Mentors for the newly appointed teachers will be the immediate Departmental Head supported by the relevant Senior or Master Teacher, as determined by the Personnel Administrative Measures (PAM).
Digital Skills Training
Digital skills training empowers Foundation Phase teachers to leverage technology effectively in their classrooms. They can use digital tools to create engaging and interactive lessons that cater to different learning styles, fostering a more dynamic and effective teaching environment. Planned target of 250 Foundation Phase Teachers for the 2024/25 financial year. Stakeholder collaboration to enhance digital skills training: The Northern Cape Department of Education in collaboration with the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) and the National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (NEMISA) for free Digital Skills training in the Province during early March and April 2024. This is a SACE accredited training intervention worth 15 CPTD Points. The focus will be on the high enrolment and underperforming high schools teachers across all Districts.
